NURSERY STOCK SHOPPING CART
We sell Chinese seedlings, chinkapin seedlings, timber hybrid seedlings, grafted chestnut cultivars and seed chestnuts. The seedlings are sold as bare-root stock, shipped from late December through May, or as container stock. Small quantities of container trees can be shipped during their dormant season, September through April, or can be picked up any time during the year. Below is our nursery catalog which provides descriptions and prices of our stock. The chestnut seed section of our catalog is at the bottom of this page.

Chinese seedlings (Castanea mollissima) - Grown from open-pollinated seed collected from superior mother trees, selected for nut production characteristics including large nut size, good kernel qualities, consistent yields, blight resistance, cold hardiness. Seedlings are labeled according to mother tree. Orders for more than 10 trees will include seedlings from various mother trees. If you would like seedlings from one or more particular mother trees, call us to verify availability. Chinese seedlings are available as 1-yr bare-root (12-24 in. tall), 2-yr bare-root (24-36 in. tall), or 2-yr container (2 gal pot).
SHIPPING FOR BARE-ROOT TREES: The price includes shipping to all states in the USA except AK, CA, HI, OR, WA. The West Coast states all have quarantine restrictions that do not permit entry of chestnut trees from eastern USA, so we cannot ship trees to those states. |

Allegheny chinkapin seedlings (Castanea pumila) - Grown from our own selected population of chinkapins (not chinkapin oaks!) Allegheny chinkapins are native to southeastern USA. They are a shrub or small tree reaching a mature height of about 25 ft. They produce large quantities of tiny nuts (400-500 per lb.) in clusters of burs. They are great for wildlife or landscape use. Available as 1-yr bare-root, 2-yr bare-root or 2-yr container (1 gal.) stock.

Timber hybrids (Castanea hybrids) - Seedling trees of hybrid ancestry including Chinese, American, and European. Seed collected from highly selected, blight resistant, timber-type mother trees. Not all seedlings will be blight resistant, nor will all be timber type. Suggested for small-scale experimental plantings.

Wildlife hybrids (Castanea hybrids) - Seedling trees of hybrid ancestry including Chinese, Seguin (Chinese chinkapin), and Allegheny chinkapin. Seed collected from highly selected, blight resistant, vigorous trees that are very productive and precocious with small nut size. The nuts have excellent flavor, but are generally too small for commercial production. Ultimate tree size is too small to compete in a closed-canopy forest. Great attractant for deer and game birds. | For those who wish to grow their own seedling trees, we offer specially selected seed chestnuts. These are the same chestnuts that we plant to produce our seedling nursery stock. They are collected only from the best mother trees, i.e., blight resistant, cold-hardy, consistent bearers of large, high quality chestnuts. They are selected for nut production (not timber) and are mostly pure Chinese (C. mollissima). If you would like seed from a particular mother tree, we can provide it, just give us a call. SEED CHESTNUTS SHOULD BE ORDERED SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER; THEY ARE SHIPPED IN NOVEMBER. | ||
